Workshops

Rivka offers several storytelling and writing workshops for individuals, events, organizations, and businesses. Simply Extraordinary Tales workshops are participatory and interactive classes that encourage exploration and mastery over different aspects of the Oral Story and writing.

·         Listening 101 - You might be a good talker, but how are you when it comes to listening?  LISTENING 101 is an experimental workshop that allows you to explore how you listen and discover ways to sharpen your skills.

·        The content you need for the Web – Learn everything you wanted to know about SEO, backlinks, social networking, and web content but was afraid to ask. This workshop shows you what to look for in good and bad content, what works, what doesn’t, and what can hurt you.

·        Heirloom Tales – Exercises and group telling teach individuals how to save their family stories.  (See SOS – Save our Story page).

·         Suspense  Wait, Wait……Ahhhhhh. - Suspense in oral story is explored by looking at suspense in other art forms.  Workshop participants divide into 4 groups and look at how suspense is built and successfully exploited in 4 genres (horror, humor, drama, and fairytales/fantasy).  Each group will examine suspense in music, art, prose, and film.  At the end of the workshop the class will share their observations through group discussion.

·         Once upon a time….Happliy ever after. (Beginning and Ends)  This interactive workshop takes a close look at the importance of the beginning and complete-endings of spoken word stories.  Participants will enjoy a variety of exercise and group discussions focusing on how to begin and end oral tales.  This workshop is geared to both beginning and advanced tellers.

·        Transformational Tales – Learn how to create a personal language using fantasy images to explore your history.  We will learn how to transform personal experiences into tales that can be transformational.
